Niger Seeds

These tiny yet highly nutritious seeds pack a punch when it comes to oil content, making them well worth the task for any hungry Goldfinch looking for a scrumptious high energy meal. Niger seeds do in fact have a husk around them meaning birds must first strip this tiny husk away from the seed within before consuming. However, this is no issue for the highly adapted Goldfinch or Siskin who have slender beaks to aid accomplishing this task. This does therefore result in small husks gathered below the feeders.

Due to Niger Seeds being so small, they can easily blow out or spill from regular seed feeders. Therefore, a dedicated Niger Seed feeder is required to feed these seeds. Niger Seed feeders utilise small holes at the ports of the feeder to prevent this from happening, and with Goldfinches and Siskins having such slender beaks they have no issues picking a singular seed out through the port hole.

As mentioned in the main description, Sunflower Hearts are also an option if you’re looking to encourage these birds into your garden with the added benefit of them being fed from any regular seed feeder. They also feed many additional species of birds over Niger Seeds, so if you are unlucky and can’t encourage Goldfinches or Siskins to your garden then Sunflower Hearts won’t go to waste unlike Niger Seeds.
